Rob-E is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, but works mostly alone in his home studio creating music. He knew he needed some rhythmic elements in the song, but didn’t want full-on drums for this song, nor did he have percussion instruments lying around. At the same time, he felt that electronic drum samples just seemed to fall flat, lacking the liveliness expected in a Country song. That’s when he happened to discover OneUpLoops.
“OneUpLoops is, quite frankly, amazing. They are simply a zero-compromise solution for pre-recorded percussion loops. Instead of taking some drum loop that was recorded without regard for your song’s tempo and butchering it by altering the timing and then simply accepting whatever they happened to record it with, OneUpLoops has rhythm loops played on a variety of instruments, played natively at the tempo of your song, and recorded with a variety of high-quality microphones with their own unique tones. This is like hiring a session artist to play for your song and then telling them what microphone to use. Like I said, Zero. Compromises.”
– Robert “Rob-E” Perkins
Rob-E utilizes OneUpLoops’ shaker and tambourine samples as the primary rhythmic elements in “Christmas Day Begins at Midnight”.
